Artificial Grass and Garden Patio in Southampton
How to Give Your Decking a New Lease of Life

There’s nothing like a new deck or garden patio to revitalise an outdoor space. Along with a landscaped lawn, colourful flower beds and well-designed garden fencing, you can give your garden a heavenly makeover. While you may enjoy socialising and relaxing outdoors, at some stage, you’ll need to do a little DIY to keep it all looking new.

As a renowned landscaping company with 30+ years’ combined experience, Affordable Tree Care & Landscaping can help by providing a wide range of landscaping services, such as artificial grass, to Southampton and the New Forest residents. We also install amazing new driveways.

We do the hard work so you can enjoy the outdoor haven we provide.

Keep Your Decking Looking Like New

We install both composite and wooden decking, depending on our clients’ requirements.

Composite Decking

Produced by wrapping wooden fibres in plastic, composite decking lasts longer as it won’t warp or splinter over time. Boards are now available that keep the decking cool underfoot.

Wooden Decking

Natural wooden decking is more susceptible to rot and infestation. Constant heat can render the boards uncomfortably warm, and more maintenance is required to ensure their longevity.
Overall, composite decking is expensive to install, but at Affordable Tree Care & Landscaping, we recommend it for its durability and resistance.
Regardless of the decking you choose for your outdoor space in Southampton, it’s important to keep it looking good. There’s nothing worse than stepping out onto the boards after a cold winter or wet spring to a moss-infested surface. Besides the unappealing appearance, your decking is liable to be extremely slippy.
Why not consider including garden fencing and an extended garden patio to your outdoor space? As a landscaping company, we can also add that new driveway you’ve been considering and reduce your gardening time with artificial grass.
You don’t need many items in order to clean your composite or wooden decking; just the following:
  • Washing-Up Liquid

  • Deck Cleaner

  • Wire Brush

  • Kitchen Scourer

  • Large Sponge

  • Bucket

  • Hose or Pressure Washer

Make sure you select a deck cleaner specifically manufactured for your type of decking and clear the area first.
For wooden decking, give the boards a gentle wash to remove cobwebs and excess dirt using soapy water and a sponge. Any tough stains can be removed with the scourer. Remember to always scrub along the grain, not against it. Be careful with a pressure washer, as the jet could splinter and damage natural wooden decking. Our Southampton-based experts at Affordable Tree Care & Landscaping recommend using a hose with a less intense flow instead.
If you use a deck cleaner or stripper to tackle stubborn stains, remember that the surface will have to be oiled or stained afterwards to preserve the timber.
Composite decking is much easier to maintain; the process is similar to cleaning a standard kitchen or bathroom floor, just using a brush instead of a mop. Selecting the fan option on a pressure washer will clear out any debris that has lodged along the decking’s edge or within the expansion gaps.
